IPL likely to introduce 'player-transfer' rule mid-tournament; details inside

Indian Premier League (IPL), the most talk league among Indian cricket fans, once again will be back on the ground in a few months. The IPL governing council and BCCI have included so many things to make it more and more interesting and now if the reports are to be believed then they are going to include a new rule in the tournament which will affect everyone.

IPL is planning to introduce a new rule and it is adopted from European football leagues. If the reports in Mid-day are to believed, then they are introducing 'a mid-tournament window' in which any player playing from any team can be eligible to play for any other team in the same tournament. But there are some terms and conditions in the rule, according to which the rule is only applicable if the player has not been included in playing eleven in seven matches consecutively. A player who has not been included in playing 11 in 7 matches continuously, then he can be available for the transfer in any other franchise. However, the final decision whether the player would be transferred to any other franchise or not rest in the hands of governing body of IPL.

The BCCI officials, the governing body of IPL, all the eight franchise and Committee of Administrators had met on Tuesday and they agreed on this idea reportedly.

"There have been instances where a player gets only a few games, and that too towards the business end of the tournament, or warms the bench throughout the season. A team buys a certain player in the auction but later finds it difficult to accommodate him in the playing XI due to their combination or team balance. This proposal is a win-win situation for players and teams. The idea was discussed at the meeting and all owners/team representatives seemed convinced about it. The modalities will be worked out as soon as the IPL body accepts the proposal," mid-day quoted a BCCI source.

However, it is not decided yet if the rule will be implemented like European football leagues or not.
