Cricket’s biggest stars will be on front foot when the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League gets underway on March 23. The superstars from the game will be in India as the eight franchises get ready to battle it out for the coveted trophy.
The superstars may be important but the domestic talent pool will be crucial too. Each side have one such talent, lets take a look at the one key Indian player in every team, who could win the title for them.
Sunrisers Hyderabad – Vijay Shankar
With captain David Warner returning in the team, he will look to make a good use of all-rounder Vijay Shankar in the IPL. Shankar who was traded from Delhi Capitals was picked up for team India and delivered in the crucial moment. Shankar played in the ODI series against Australia and bowled in death overs. With Bhuveneshwar Kumar in the side, Shankar will learn a lot from the experienced seamer and might deliver the trophy to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Delhi Capitals – Rishabh Pant
The 21-year-old has quickly become a household name after his stint in international cricket. He became the first Indian wicket-keeper to score a Test century on Australian and English soil. In last year’s IPL he was given the emerging player of the tournament for his amazing performance for Delhi Daredevils, which is now known as Delhi Capitals. The youngster amassed 684 runs from 14 innings at an average of 52.61 while registering a high score of 128. All this, while batting at a sensational strike-rate of nearly 174.
Kolkata Knight Riders – Kuldeep Yadav
In just two years of time, Kuldeep Yadav has become one of the most important bowler for team India. He has registered his name in the books of white ball cricket as he became number 4 bowler in ODI cricket and number 5 in T20Is. With the World Cup coming up in England, Kuldeep will want to get into good rhythm while also testing himself against the world’s best batsmen. The 24-year-old played a key role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ march to the play-off last year by picking up 17 wickets and he looks poised to have his best IPL campaign yet following the improvement he has shown at the international level.
Kings XI Punjab – KL Rahul
KL Rahul played an important part in the T20I series against Australia, which India lost by 2-0 at their home. Though Australia won, Rahul was fantastic with his performance after his comeback in the national side. KL Rahul proved to be a vital member for his IPL franchise last year. Rahul scored 659 runs from 14 innings with the highest score of 95 not-out. Rahul scored scored at an average of 54.91 and with a fantastic strike rate of 158. Rahul was retained by KXIP in this year’s auction and can be a crucial member in winning a cup for them.
