India all-rounder Dinesh Mongia announces retirement, was banned by BCCI in connection with ICL

Former Indian all-rounder Dinesh Mongia announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. Mongia who hailed from Punjab made his debut for his state in 1995-96 season and was a prolific run-getter in the domestic circuit. Mongia played his last international game against Bangladesh in 2007.

Mongia was banned by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for his involvement with the Indian Cricket League (ICL). BCCI managed to force the unsanctioned league to shut down and banned players who had a connection with the league. BCCI later removed the ban from other players but Mongia was left untouched.

Mongia was made the state selector by the Punjab Cricket Association las season, which Mongia sees as amnesty from BCCI. Mongia is now looking for coaching opportunities.

Dinesh Mongia made 8028 runs in 121 FC matches at an average of 48.95 and the best score of 308* with 27 centuries and 28 half-centuries. Mongia scored 5535 runs from 198 List-A matches including 10 centuries and 26 fifties. Mongia played 57 ODI matches for India and scored 1230 runs at an average of 27.95 including 1 century and 4 fifties.
