Opening Bells: Sensex at 34,458.86, down by over 500 points ahead of Assembly election 2018 results
The domestic stock markets slip down in the opening trade on Tuesday on the results of assembly election 2018 announcement day. The counting of votes of the five assembly elections of five states is underway when the market open with big slip in the morning. Sensex tanks 500 points, Nifty below 10,400 ahead of the assembly election outcome.
Meanwhile, a day after Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel resigned, investors also turned jittery.
The S&P BSE Sensex opened at 34,584.13 and the Nifty50 barometer of the National Stock Exchange started at 10,350.05.
At 9:30 am, the Sensex traded at 34,458.060, down 501.66 points or 1.43 per cent and the Nifty50 was at 10,356.85, with a loss of 131.60 points or 1.25 per cent.
In the morning, Economist Surjit Bhalla also stepped down from PM Modi's advisory council. Indian economist Surjit Bhalla resigned from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s economic advisory council effective December 1, a spokesman in Modi’s office said on Tuesday.
