Gurugram couple conducts Hindu wedding rituals for two pet dogs [Watch]

In what was a very rare event, a couple in Gurugram organised marriage rituals for their pet dog to a neighbourhood canine and administered the creatures' marrage. The ceremony was conducted abiding by the rituals of Indian weddings. The wedding ceremony of the two dogs included the traditional 'pheras'.

As a matter of fact, the dog owner told ANI that a 'haldi ceremony' was also organised for her dogs and the dog's to-be partner. Dogs, namely Sweety and Sheru, got married on November 14.

The visuals and the wedding were nothing short of peculiar. In reality, invitations were sent out and around 100 invites were given out in and around the neighbourhood.

Residents of the locality in Palam Vihar Extension may have been taken by surprise, but a crowd did turn up at the event. They took part in rituals for the two dogs as 'baraatis'.

I am a pet lover and, as a couple, we used to take care of pets. I do not have a child, so Sweety (the female dog) is our kid. My husband used to go to the temple and feed animals and one day a stray dog followed him and came to us three years ago. We named her Sweety," the owner, Savita, said.

She said that people used to suggest that Sweety should be married. "We planned a ceremony in four days and decided to follow all rituals," she added.

She also said that they were not scared of cops arresting them as they were a childless couple and this was their only happiness.

"People used to say that police will pick us and put us in jail but we are not bothered," she said.

On the other hand, the male dog’s owner, Manita, said that the idea was brought up jokingly but the dogs' wedding ceremony became a major discourse.
