However, CCTV footage played a significant role in identifying and nabbing the accused.
During the interrogation, Shweta confessed she had kidnapped the boy and also revealed the motive of kidnapping. The 25-year-old accused told police that she abducted the infant for human sacrifice to revive her father who died last month.
Giving details about the case, Deputy Commissioner of Police South East Esha Pandey said that the accused woman’s father died in October. During her father's cremation, Shweta came to know that human sacrifice of an infant of the same gender could revive her father and bring him back to life.
The DCP further said that Shweta started searching for an infant boy and her search led her to maternity ward of Safdarjung Hospital. There, she introduced herself as an NGO worker. Later, she met with the boy's family members, whom she visited often to win their confidence. Subsequently, she kidnapped the boy after getting a chance on Thursday.
The 25-year-old accused woman started visiting their home at Mamraj Mohalla in Garhi in the pretext of examining the child. On Thursday, she came to the house and asked the boy’s mother to hand over the infant to her for outing.
The mother asked her 21-year-old niece Ritu to accompany Shweta while she was taking the child out of the house.
When the kidnapper came to Neem Chowk at Garhi and took the infant in her Swift car with Ritu. On the way, she offered Ritu a cold drink, due to which she fell unconscious. Later, the kidnapper dumped Ritu in Ghaziabad.
