Andhra couple Mangayamma and Raja Rao become 'world's oldest parents' take twin girls home
A couple from Andhra Pradesh has made international headlines for becoming the world’s oldest parents. The couple gave birth to twin girls earlier this month and will go home with the babies now as they were kept in an intensive care unit.
Mangayamma, 74, and her husband Raja Rao, 80, had been kept in the hospital's intensive care unit and will go home today. Rumours were being spread that Raja Rao suffered a massive heart attack which the doctors later denied.
“Raja Rao had a lung infection earlier. We had placed them in an ICU category room but they did not need any intensive care. The mother Mangayamma is also active and moving about though she was also in the ICU room,” Dr Uma Shankar told NDTV.
Once the couple goes home there won’t be any pressure to take care of the babies as the whole family is ready to help them, niece Laxmi said to NDTV.
The elderly couple had tried to conceive for years and last year they opted for IVF (In Vitro Fertilisation). Mangayamma became pregnant in January this year, after the first cycle of the IVF procedure.
