After the T20 World Cup, social media witnessed has a war of words involving cricketers and former cricketers, especially from Pakistan and India. The most recent one was between Pakistan's legendary pacer Shoaib Akhtar and veteran India bowler Mohammed Shami after the Babar Azam-led side suffered a devastating defeat to England in Melbourne on Sunday.
The war of words started between the two former cricketers moments after the Pakistani team lost five wickets. Shoaib Akhtar expressed his feelings on Twitter by posting heartbroken emoticons without words or hashtags. Mohammed Shami, who was also watching the T20 World Cup finals, retweeted Shoai’s post and wrote, “Hello brother, it's call karma”, followed by heartbroken emojis. Akhtar also took it seriously and hit back at Shami. The Twitter battle between the two legendary cricketers turned out to be among the most trending topics on Twitter.
Wasim Akram, who was participating in a program on A Sports, reacted to the ongoing war of words on Twitter. He stated that everyone is patriotic about their own countries, and we should be leaving it to that rather than responding to such tweets.
“We should stay neutral. Indians are patriotic about their their country, and I'm fine with that, we are patriotic about our country. But instead of that, jalti pe tel daalna, tweet pe tweet karna, just don't do it man,” Akram said.
Former Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq who was also at the program, said, “You shouldn't do this just for the sake of few 'Likes'. Cricketers, whether from India or Pakistan or any other country, we are all a family. So we should respect each other and give our opinions respectfully. We also have a certain responsibility.”
