A full-grown bear and a cub, who mauled a man, were captured in Srinagar after a 21-hour hunt on September 12. With this, the residents of the area have expressed relief.
As per Wildlife Department, the teams started the operation to capture the wild animals on September 11 when they were caught on a CCTV camera at Jawahar Nagar. The officials placed three cage traps at the entry and exit points of the area.
“After 21 hours non-stop operation, Black Bear spotted yesterday [Sunday] in Rajbagh area has been tranquillised. Great job by the team led by Wildlife Department. As of now, it is not clear where the wild animals came from. According to experts animals might have come from the nearby Zabarwan forests in search of food.
Nearby areas had been scanned and the authorities have withdrawn the advisory asking people to remain indoors.
