Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer Susanta Nanda, who is quite active on social media and often treats his followers to intriguing wildlife videos, has shared a chilling rare clip of a snow leopard attempting to hunt a mountain goat on a steep hill.
The clip showcases a snow leopard trying to hunt a mountain goat as it climbs the steep rocky hill in a gravity-defying manner. The leopard chases the goat and succeeds in capturing it but loses balance and slips on the steep hill as the horned animal fights back. The goat manages to free itself from the jaws of the predator and jumps into the river, saving its life.

Snow leopards have short forelimbs and long hind legs allowing them to traverse and stay agile in their steep and rugged environments. While Mountain goats have cloven hooves with two toes that spread wide to improve balance. Fight of the equals. pic.twitter.com/aSY0tLG8vR
The IFS officer shared the rare clip with a brief caption describing the abilities of both the snow leopard and the mountain goat: 'Not today. Watch till the end… Snow leopards have short forelimbs and long hind legs, allowing them to traverse and stay agile in their steep and rugged environments. Mountain goats have cloven hooves with two toes that spread wide to improve balance. Fight of equals.'
Since being shared, the clip has accumulated over 10,000 views and received more than 250 likes. Twitter users appreciated the chase and praised the goat for its bravery and amazing survival instinct.
Here are some interesting comments.
What a nail biting chase....in the flight to save his life the goat survives with his tenacity and with a bit of luck in his favour...the chase by the snow leopard was just mind boggling given the extremely rugged terrain..
