Odd Even 3.0: Delhi government calls off plan, says 'not ready for it'

The Delhi government has called off the plan of car rationing system Odd-Even that was schedule to be implemented from Monday, 13 November. In view of the deadly level of smog in Delhi, the Arvind Kejriwal-led government had decided to implement the Scheme from November 13 to November 17.

Earlier, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) had told the Kejriwal government that this time no one should get any relaxation under 'Odd Even' scheme. Before implementing the scheme, the Delhi government wanted to exempt women and bike riders from the Odd Even scheme. But NGT termed this decision wrong and said that if the government really wants to implement the scheme, then no one should get any relaxation in it.

Now, the Kejriwal Government Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot said that the state government will go back to the NGT again on Monday and will ask that in case of women and bike, the exemption should be given this time.

The government said that the transportation system of Delhi is not ready for 30 lakh two-wheelers going off the road.

“If 30 lakh two-wheelers are off the road, Delhi's public transport system cannot accommodate the surge,” claims Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot as he announced that the odd-even scheme has been called off.
