Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday informed that every possible step is being taken after to recover the website of Ministry of Defence after it got hacked and displaying Chinese character.
Sitharaman took to twitter to say that ‘appropriate action’ was initiated in the issue.
“Action is initiated after the hacking of MoD website ( http://mod.nic.in ). The website shall be restored shortly. Needless to say, every possible step required to prevent any such eventuality in the future will be taken,” she tweeted.

Upon visiting, the website shows an ‘error message and asked users to ‘try again later’. The site also began to display –what news agencies call- a ‘Chinese character, which apparently means home.
“"We are seized of the matter. The National Informatics Centre, which maintains the website, is trying to restore it," a ministry spokesperson said.
According to the PTI, an official said Chinese hackers may have indulged in hacking the website.
Earlier, Indian Army had warned mobile of hacking numbers from Chinese hackers.
