A local news channel The Brussels Times reported that the train driver had noticed the woman falling on the tracks and quickly pressed the emergency brakes, which brought the metro train to a stop.
Both the woman and the train driver were rushed to a hospital for medical attention, following which they were allowed to go home.
“The driver reacted very well but is very much in shock, as is the victim,” a spokesperson for the Brussels public transport company, which operates the metro, told Brussels Times.
The suspect, who fled after pushing the woman in front of the train, was taken into police custody later. He has been booked for attempted homicide. A psychiatric has been appointed by court to validate his mental state.
Further investigation into the matter is in process.
