Sober man charged for drunk driving, reason will leave you in shock

The 46 year old man was booked for drunk driving in 2014. The breathalyzer test manifested that he had gobbled up five times over the limit of alcohol for driving. The issue began when he repeatedly said that he hadn’t taken any intoxicating substances, but, the police and his family did not believe him.

After a year or so, the 46 year old, unidentified man was diagnosed with a unusual disorder known as the Auto-Brewery Syndrome. This occured in 2017, when the man started consulting a specialist at Richmond University Medical Centre in New York.

During the Test, high levels of a specific fungus called Saccharomyces cerevisias was recovered in his stool. That was when the doctors knew, what the actual condition was. The same type of fungus is used by beer makers to turn carbohydrates into alcohol. Which is also called brewer’s yeast.

The tests suggested that every time the man consumed carbohydrates, they were converted into beer inside his stomach.

It is believed that this rare disorder began after consuming some antibiotics that was prescribed for his thumb injury. The man also went on to say that since then he had been suffering from memory loss, mental fogginess and dizziness.

The disorder is so unique that only five people have been diagnosed with it in the last 30 years. Since the man started his new medications in 2017, he has not been suffering from any of those symptoms.
