In a distressing muddle up, a Scottish family scattered the ashes of the wrong person instead of their dear grandmother.
As maintained by a Daily Star report, the family was left shattered after coming to know that the ashes they scattered did not belong to their grandma. The devastating muddle up has enraged the family and left them in a grief stricken state. Eileen McClean from Scotland’s Kirkcaldy was a maternal grandmother of six children.
The 54-year-old was suffering from pulmonary embolism and passed away on 25th November, 2020. a funeral service was organised on 3rd December 2020, at Kirkcaldy Crematorium.
The greatly anguished family scattered her ashes with a heavy heart. The family also noticed that Eileen’s ashes remained on the ground for a very long period. The family now fears that what they laid to rest was an emptied vaccum bag.
After being told about the confusion last week by the crematorium worker, Eileen’s daughter is in shock. Eileen’s lamenting daughter, Mary Newlands, said, “I’m heartbroken. I feel numb. We’ve scattered someone where my mum should have been. I feel for the family of this mystery person that we’ve scattered. We have to relive all of this. She’s got six grandkids, and they’re going to have to go through it again. One of the younger ones helped to scatter the ashes”.
At the time Mary told her daughter that they would have to again say goodbye to their grandmother, the kid started crying.
Furthermore, Mary added, “There are still so many unanswered questions. She was only 54. She didn’t deserve to be left on the shelf for a year and a half.”
The crematorium has given order for further investigation into the matter and said that they were devastated for the family.
