In one of the horrifying incident in medical history, something really weird and bizarre was discovered by the doctors are usually found in a science fiction story. According to a report in Independent UK, the 29-year-old Taiwanese woman, identified only by her surname, He, went to the hospital with a swollen eye to find four bees living inside her eye.
The doctors at the Fooyin University Hospital were shocked to find those bees were feeding on her tears. As per Asia One reports that the doctors, however, managed to extract all the four bees from her eye socket.
According to reports in Guardian, the head of the ophthalmology department Dr Hung Chi-ting said at a press conference: "I saw something that looked like insect legs, so I pulled them out under a microscope slowly, and one at a time without damaging their bodies." This incident has been termed a 'world's first' case in medical history.
The Apple News Network shared a video of Ms He and of the press conference by the hospital head. In the video, it can be seen the bees entered her eye while she was pulling out weeds from near a relative's grave. Ms He felt something getting into her eye but assumed it was just dirt and washed it out.
The next day, however, Ms He found her eye swollen and went to the hospital. Fortunately, the woman recovered 80% of her vision after being hospitalised for five days. Her eyesight was saved by the fact that she had not rubbed her eyes.
According to Drs, the small bees, known as Halictidae or "sweat bees", are attracted to human perspiration. They are commonly found near mountains and graves.
