What! Woman onboard a Pakistan airlines flight ‘mistakenly’ opens emergency exit door; what happens next is shocking
In a weird yet shocking incident, a female passenger on board at Pakistan Airlines Flight mistakenly opens an emergency exit door thinking it was the toilet’s door. The Pak carrier said the plane was on the runaway of the Manchester airport early Saturday when the woman pressed the button, opening the emergency exit door of the aircraft.
“The PIA flight, PK 702, from Manchester to Islamabad was delayed by seven hours. The departure was delayed on Friday night when a passenger erroneously opened the emergency exit causing the emergency chute to activate,” said a PIA spokesperson.
Opening of the emergency door resulted in the aircraft's airbag chute opening and the evacuation of 37 passengers. Due to the incident, the flight was delayed for seven hours. The incident happened as the plane was parked on the runway ready to take off. However, during the investigation, the woman said she believed it was the door to the toilet.
“As per standard operating procedure, the PIA had to offload nearly 40 passengers and their luggage,” PIA spokesperson told media. PIA chief executive Air Marshal Arshad Malik had ordered an inquiry into the incident.
The national flag carrier has been running into losses for years and according to Gulf News reports, deploying an emergency slide costs an airline between $6,000 and $30,000 whenever the emergency chute is deployed.
