US-North Korea summit may extend beyond June 12

The much-anticipated United States-North Korean summit may be extended beyond June 12 and is not likely to be canceled in spite of the recent letter by US President Donald Trump hinting at putting off the summit.

Trump took to his Twitter on Friday (local time) to confirm the occurrence of the summit.

"We are having very productive talks with North Korea about reinstating the Summit which, if it does happen, will likely remain in Singapore on the same date, June 12th., and, if necessary, will be extended beyond that date" Trump tweeted.

On Thursday, the US President, as per a release by the White House, called off the much-anticipated United States-North Korea summit.

The US President blamed the 'hostility' and anger displayed by North Korea regarding the US-South Korea Max military drills for canceling the summit.

"Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, l feel it is inappropriate at this time to have this long-planned meeting," Trump said in a release.

The fate of summit had been in a lurch since North Korea threatened to cancel the meeting due to the US-South Korean 'Max' military drills.

It was followed by Trump's statement through which he counter-attacked North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un saying the lack of steps taken towards denuclearisation may jeopardise the upcoming summit.

Further, on Thursday, Trump wrote a letter to Kim in which he stated that due to North Korea's hostile behavior he may delay or cancel the summit.
