South Korea proposes having joint women's hockey team with North

South Korea has proposed a joint women's hockey team with North Korea at the upcoming Winter Olympics, confirmed the country's government official on Friday.

The idea of putting together the unified Korean team was dwelled upon during Tuesday's inter-Korean meeting, in addition with a proposal for a joint parade into the opening ceremony at the Winter Olympics, South Korea's news agency Yonhap, reported, citing Vice Sports Minister Roh Tae-kang, as saying.

South Korea's proposal of a joint hockey team wasn't made public on Tuesday instantly.

North Korea, which agreed to send a delegation to February's Winter Olympics in South Korea, did not immediately respond to the joint march proposal.

The two countries, on January 9, held their first official talks after more than two years.

The talks were held at the border village of Panmunjom or "truce village," in the Korean Peninsula's heavily fortified demilitarised zone DMZ.

The five-member North Korean delegation travelled to the border in a motorcade. This was the two countries' first face-to-face talks since December 2015.

The Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place at South Korea's Pyeongchang from February 9-25.

The two countries may hold working-level talks next week to further discuss the issue before a Jan 20 meeting.

The Jan 20 meeting will be chaired by International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach at the IOC headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, the report said.
