Masood Azhar, Pakistan-based Jais-e-Mohammed chief is confined to bed with life-threatening ailment

Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) is reportedly suffering from life-threatening condition and confined to bed as Indian intelligence officials said.

There is also report of internal rift in the terror outfit between his two younger brothers, Rauf Asghar and Athar Ibrahim.

According to the officials, 50-year-old is suffering ailments that have affected his spinal cord and kidney. Azhar is said to have been undergone the treatment for his spinal cord and renal condition at the Combined Military Hospital in Rawalpindi and the militant leader is bedridden for at least a year and a half.

However, Indian diplomats did not confirm Azhar’s illness but said he had not been seen in public either in his home town Bhawalpur or anywhere else in Pakistan.

“There is no need to India to give concessions to Beijing over designation of Azhar as global terrorist as the terrorist has been struck with debilitating illness,” a senior counter-terrorism official based in Delhi was quoted by The Hindustan Times as saying.

Azhar has been held responsible for a string of suicide terror attacks on Indian land including the 2001 attack on Parliament, the 2005 attack in Ayodhya and the 2016 attack on Pathankot airbase.

Azhar was set free by India and transported to Kandahar in exchange for hijacked passesgers of IC-814 IN 1999. The hijack was accomplished with the support by the then Taliban and al-Qaeda chief and the ISI.

The hijacking was the handiwork of Athar Ibrahim, who is now carrying out terror strikes in Afghanistan and Balochistan from the Khyber Pankhtunkhwa region.
