Malaysia PM Mahathir Mohamad attacks India: India has 'invaded and occupied' Jammu and Kashmir

Malaysia Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad has alleged that India has invaded and occupied Jammu and Kashmir and urged Indian government to work and sort out issue with Pakistan.

Mahathir Mohamad in his speech at the United Nations General Assemby stated that there may be reasons behind India’s stand on Jammu and Kashmir “but it is still wrong”. Mahathir further stated that regardless of UN resolutions, Jammu and Kashmir has been “invaded and occupied”.

"Ignoring the UN would lead to others forms of disregard for the United Nations and the rule of law,” he said.

"India should work with Pakistan to resolve this problem," he added.

Later, speaking to the media at UN headquarters, Malaysian Prime Minister stated that he had urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to sort out the issue over Kashmir via negotiations instead of invading, when PM Modi told him why his government repealed article 370 during their Tete-a-tete in Russia.

India has told the international community that the revoking of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status was an internal matter. India has denied any intervention of the third party in this matter, stating the two countries can discuss and sort out all issues bilaterally.

Mahathir had met Modi in Russia during an economic forum earlier this month. Mahathir was questioned by a reporter on Friday if he has spoken to India and Pakistan to calm down and restrain themselves.

The Malaysian Prime Minister stated he had a talk with PM Modi in Russia during which Modi elucidated why his government scrapped Article 370. he also agreed with me that India has resolved problems via negotiations, with Bangladesh and others, Mahathir said.

Mahathir stated he asked Modi that since India has experience with negotiating to lessen conflict why not use negotiations to do so instead of invading the valley.

Malaysian Prime Minister stated to this, Modi didn't pledged to anything but I did tell him that it is up to him if he would use negotiations to settle the issue of terrorism in Kashmir.
