Jordanians allowed to carry laptops on U.S.-bound flights

The Royal Jordanian has become the latest Middle Eastern airlines to allow passengers carry laptops in the cabin on US-bound flights.

The national carrier of Kuwait announced on 9 July that passengers will once again be allowed to carry personal electronics, including laptops, on board U.S.-bound flights, ending a ban that had been imposed in March.

The Trump administration on March 2017 had imposed restrictions on carry-on electronic devices on planes travelling to the United States from 10 airports in Muslim-majority countries in the Middle East and North Africa over threat that Islamic State fighters and other extremists could hide bombs inside laptops.

Royal Jordanian said it had implemented "enhanced security measures" in line with U.S. Department of Homeland Security requirements but did not mentioned about what were the new measures that have been implemented; the Fox News reported. Royal Jordanian operates 16 weekly non-stop flights to Chicago, New York and Detroit.

Kuwait Airlines said the decision to lift the ban came after U.S. officials inspected the carrier's security measures.

On 6 March, Trump signed a revised executive order barring citizens from Iran, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen from traveling to the United States for 90 days.
