Two toddlers killed after car rams into crowd of nursery group; two women arrested
Two children were killed after a car chrashed into a group of 13 nursery kids while they were out walking in western Japan. According to PTI reports, a car ploughed into a group of kindergarten children in western Japan's Shiga region on Wednesday. Several others were left injured.
Police said the car veered onto the pavement after making "contact" with another larger vehicle that was turning at a junction in Otsu City.
Two women, 62-year-old in the compact car and a 52-year-old in the other vehicle, were arrested on the spot for alleged negligence, police said.
A girl and a boy, both two years old were killed in the accident, a police spokesman told AFP.
"The (smaller) car rammed into a group of 13 nursery school children and three teachers who were walking on the pavement," the police said in a statement.
"We're very shocked and terribly saddened by this ghastly accident," the company operating the nursery said in a statement on their Facebook page. In Japan, children often walk to school in groups.
