Imran Khan came to power through rigging, claims PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) president Shehbaz Sharif has hit out at Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for not fulfilling his promise of forming a parliamentary body to investigate the alleged rigging in the general elections that were held in July.

Briefing the media, Sharif claimed that Khan did not come to power by votes but through rigging, and said that the cricketer-turned-politician had assured him that a parliamentary commission would be made to probe these allegations levelled by the opposition parties, but did not act on it, Geo News reported.

"Three weeks have passed and a parliamentary commission has still not been formed. We will ensure that a commission is made at any cost. PM Imran should fulfill his promises. I present myself before the nation for accountability," he added.

The PML-N president, who is the brother of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif, has been vocal about rigging allegations in the parliamentary polls that were held on July 25.

In his speech at the National Assembly, after losing to Khan in the prime ministerial elections last month, Sharif had demanded an audit into the election results.

He questioned the legitimacy of the polls and warned of protests by the grand opposition if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government failed to address their grievances.

"We won't have another options but to take to the streets and protest. A political party was targetted in the election. This parliament has come to pass as a result of massive rigging. People won't accept such results," Sharif had said.
