High Alert! Tsunami alert after powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake strucks central Indonesia
Tsunami alert after powerful 7.5 magnitude earthquake struck central Indonesia. A larger 7.5 magnitude earthquake tremors struck off the Indonesian island of Sulawesi on Friday, indicating a tsunami alert, hours after a milder quake hit the same area.
"We advise people to remain in safe areas, stay away from damaged buildings," Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman for the National Disaster Mitigation Agency, said.
According to reports in the Mirror UK, an authorities said that an earlier quake destroyed some houses, killing one person and injuring at least 10.
Indonesia's meteorology agency issued an early alerts for people in Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi provinces, asking people to vacate to higher ground.
The U.S. Geological Survey claimed the magnitude of the second quake at a strong 7.5, after first saying it was 7.7 magnitude. "The (second) quake was felt very strongly, we expects more damage and more victims," Nugroho added.
The earlier quake destroyed some houses, killing one person and injuring at least 10, authorities said further.
