Donald Trump humiliated after woman astronaut in space station corrects him during live call
United States President Donald Trump was discomfited for a mistake while he got in touch with NASA astronauts Jessica Meir and Christina Koch at the International Space Station to congratulate them for becoming the first ever female spacewalkers , a media report stated.
A hold up in connection between Donald Trump and the International Space Station created silence for a short time, before Jessica Meir elucidated that they were not the first female spacewalkers, The Daily Express said.
It was in 1984 that Svetlana Yevgenyevna Savitskaya went on to become the first ever female to complete a spacewalk, since then, a total of 15 women have spacewalked.
Meir, possesses a doctorate in marine biology and Koch, is an electrical engineer, steeped out in their space suits on Friday.
The error came as Trump sat at a table in the White House with Ivanka Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and some of NASA officials.
“This is the first time for a woman outside of the space station,” Trump said.
"You are amazing people; they're conducting the first ever female spacewalk to replace an exterior part of the space station. They're doing some work, and they're doing it in a very high altitude - an altitude that very few people will ever see."
Notwithstanding that, Meir was then heard rectifying the President, elucidating that the event marked the first time two female had steped outside the spacecraft at the same time.
"We don't want to take too much credit because there have been many other female spacewalkers before. This is the first time that there's been two women outside at the same time," she said.
