Comey's exit won't halt Russia probe: Donald Trump
President Donald Trump has assured that his firing of FBI Director James Comey will not end the agency's investigation into Russia's alleged meddling into the U.S. Presidential elections.
Trump said his decision of firing Comey might confuse people but he termed this exercise as a "right thing for the American people."
He dismissed the notion that with Comey's dismissal the agency's investigation into Russian meddling will be affected.
Rather he wanted the FBI's investigation into Russia's election interference to be "absolutely done properly," CNN quoted Trump as saying.
FBI has been investigating Russian influence in the US elections and the contact of Moscow with Trump campaign officials.
White House deputy press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said the Comey firing may hasten the agency's investigation into Russian meddling.
"We want this to come to its conclusion, we want it to come to its conclusion with integrity," she said, referring to the FBI's probe into Moscow's interference in last year's election. "And we think that we've actually, by removing Director Comey, taken steps to make that happen."
