Cleric Muqtada al-Sadr wins Iraq Parliamentary elections
Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's political coalition is said to have won the majority in the Iraq parliamentary elections conducted on April 12. As per Saturday's reports, Sadr's coalition has been able to win the maximum number of seats.
Further, ruling Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi was put to the third place and an alliance of candidates with close ties to Iranian-backed paramilitary forces came second.
The results marked a significant victory in the political history of Sadr. None of the parties was able to gain a clear majority and thus several months might take to form a government.
Further, it is not known that who will be selected to be the Prime Minister from Sadr's camp. Following the overthrow of Saddam Hussein reign, Sadr has come up to be a leader of Shiites.
