Big Relief Nigeria: 100 kidnapped mothers and children free now
In a country where mass kidnapping has become a norm, the release of 100 women and children in Nigeria comes as a major relief for the authorities.
The government agency claims that the release was secured without paying any ransom, but refused to provide more details.
The kidnapping was carried out last month on 8 June in Zamfara state.
According to reports, since December 2020, more than 1,000 people have been abducted in the region.
Bandits release the victims after securing ransom money from their relatives, but in some cases, the victims have been killed.
Since December 2020, more than 1,000 people have been abducted.
The abduction cases have spiralled after the abduction of 276 schoolgirls from school by Boko Haram Islamist militants in Borno state in 2014. The lure of fast and huge cash has encouraged more armed groups to resort to the mass abduction of students.
