Roger Federer knocked out of US Open by world’s 78th ranked Grigor Dimitrov
Top seed Roger Federer was knocked out by World’s 78th rank Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov in the US Open by 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 4-6, 2-6 at the New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium. It was a huge dismay for the world number one who failed to book his place in his 46th Grand Slam semi-final berth. Till date Roger Federer has won 20 Grand Slams which includes five US Open crown.
At the same time, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev registered his first ever Grand Slam semi-final place by overcoming Stan Wawrinka.
It appeared to be like Roger Federer was struggling with his fitness as he took a medical time out after the fourth round. The veteran left the court along with his trainer and also left his fans heartbroken. It was not known what precisely went wrong with Roger Federer and why he left the match.
But after ten minutes break, the 38 year old ace came back to the court stretching his back which gave an idea that he has a problem with his back. The match was close in all three first rounds and Roger Federer was a step ahead but following the break, Federer failed to bring forth his A game, which saw him lose the 4th and 5th set.
Throughout the game, Roger Federer made 61 unforced errors and 33 on the forehand side. If Federer would have won the game, he would have become the oldest Grand Slam semifinalist after Jimmy Connors 39.
Grigor Dimitrov who made it to his 3rd major semi-final will go face to face with fifth seed Daniil Medvedev on Friday. On the other hand, Daniil Medvedev will be playing his first Grand Slam semifinal after vanquishing Stan Wawrinka.
