French Open 2018: Simona Halep beats Sloane Stephens to win maiden grand slam title
The Romanian Star, Simona Halep claims maiden Slam after three finals defeats and achieve her “dream” of winning a Grand Slam title, defeating blazing American Sloane Stephens 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a gruelling French Open final on Saturday.
After winning Grand Slam title she wrote- Words can’t describe how happy the last 24 hours have been for me. I’ve read so many messages & social media posts that’ve brought tears to my eyes that I can’t thank you enough. Sorry for a few bumps along the way but we finally got there Lots of love, Simo
As per reported in ESPN Simona cited that "when I started to win games, I said that last year it happened to me, same thing, I was set and a break up (against Jelena Ostapenko), and I lost the match," Halep said. "So I said there is a chance to come back and win it. So I believed in that and my game was more relaxed. I could make more things on court, and that's why I could win."
"She made more errors than she did in the first set. Simona realized that as well and was determined to keep the rallies longer. That's clay-court tennis, it's why it's so difficult to win this tournament. Mentally you have to be tough, physically you have to be strong; you need a little bit of luck", Halep's coach cited.
