Toyota aims to make all cars electric by 2025

Toyota, a Japan-based auto manufacturer, is mulling over the plan of launching a series of electric vehicles in the major car markets of the world like China, U.S., India, and Europe. By 2025, the company is planning to offer its entire range of vehicles in a dedicated or optional electrified model. This includes a complete portfolio of Toyota and its luxury car division Lexus. Meanwhile, the company has already announced its plans to introduce electric vehicles in the Indian market by 2020.

As per the data released by Toyota, the carmaker is planning to sell more than 5.5 million electric vehicles, including over 1 million BEVs (Battery Electric Vehicles) and FCEVs (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles), between 2020 to 2030. The announcement was made as a part of the company's 2020-2030 plan for the popularization of electric vehicles, which includes the electrification of entire Toyota and Lexus car range.

According to the company, its strategy centers have accelerated the development of electric vehicles significantly, which will further push the plans of the launch of hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), BEVs and FCEVs.

In a statement issued on the plan, the company said, "Toyota will accelerate the popularization of BEVs with more than 10 BEV models to be available worldwide by early 2020, starting in China, before entering other markets – the gradual introduction to Japan, India, the United States and Europe is expected."

In a similar move, another Japanese car manufacturer, Suzuki Motor Corporation, has announced its plan to establish a lithium-ion battery plant in Gujarat.

It is noteworthy that the government in India has been pushing the use of electric vehicles and is looking forward to promoting and expanding the use of electric vehicles in the country significantly by the year 2030.
