Viral Eye Flu Spreads in Kota, Doctors Warn of Community Spread

Kota: The rain has brought a new trend of viral eye flu in Kota, with doctors warning of community spread. This season, the number of patients has increased, with 15-20 patients visiting hospitals daily. The disease is affecting people of all ages, including school children, youth, and the elderly.

According to Dr. Sudhir Gupta, an eye specialist, the trend has changed this year. Earlier, patients would come in 4-5 days after the rain, but this time, they are coming in immediately after the rain starts. The infection is also affecting the cornea, leading to reduced vision.

Dr. Gupta said, "We are seeing 5-10 cases daily. It's essential to take precautions to prevent the community spread of viral eye flu. We need to be cautious."

What is Viral Eye Flu?

Viral eye flu, also known as conjunctivitis infection or pink eye, is a highly contagious eye disease. It spreads rapidly during the rainy season due to viral or bacterial infections. The disease starts in one eye and can spread to the other eye if precautions are not taken. Symptoms include redness, swelling, and discharge from the eye, followed by itching, burning, and blurred vision.

Symptoms

* Redness and swelling of the eyes
* Pain, itchiness, and burning sensation in the eyes
* Discharge or watering from the eyes
* Sticking of eyelids together in the morning

Prevention

* Avoid washing your eyes with dirty water during the rainy season
* Avoid crowded places and swimming pools
* Avoid touching or shaking hands with infected people
* Wash your hands regularly, especially after coming in contact with an infected person
* Use clean towels, handkerchiefs, and sterile eye wipes
* If infected, avoid sending children to school for 4-5 days and minimize contact with others at work

The health department has appealed to the public to take necessary precautions to prevent the spread of viral eye flu.
