After scoring a brilliant century in his first World Cup 2019 match, team India vice-captain Rohit Sharma registered an amazing batting record against Australia. Rohit Sharma surpasses Sachin Tendulkar to become the quickest to reach 2000 runs in one-day international cricket against a particular team.

Rohit Sharma took 37 innings to score 2000 plus runs against Australia, while Sachin Tendulkar took 40 innings to achieve the same milestone. Sachin’s fastest 2000 was also against Australia. Other players who feature in the list are Sir Viv Richards – 44 against Australia, Indian skipper Virat Kohli – 44 against Sri Lanka and MS Dhoni – 45 against Sri Lanka.

The record for most runs against Australia is held by Sachin Tendulkar, who has 3077 runs at an average of 44.59. Rohit Sharma is fourth on the list with 2000 plus runs at an average of 62.68.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan gave a good start to the Indian team as they notched up a 100-run partnership. Rohit Sharma was dismissed by Nathan Coulter-Nile for 57 runs off 70 balls.

India’s Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia. In head-to-head competition, Australia is leading by 3-1 against India since 2003 World Cup.
