Amit Panghal becomes first Indian male boxer to reach World Boxing Championships final

Indian boxer Amit Panghal created history as he became the first Indian male boxer to reach World Boxing Championships final. Panghal reached the final after defeating Kazakhstan's Saken Bibossinov by split decision (3-2) in the 52kg semi-final on Friday in Ekaterinburg, Russia.

Earlier, Amit Panghal became the first Indian male boxer to reach the semi-final of the tournament, surpassing World Championships bronze medalists Vijender Singh Vikas Krishan, Shiva Thapa and Gaurav Bidhuri.

The Asian Games gold medalist, Panghal showed a lot of class as he started with a defensive approach and then landing some crucial punches. As the bout entered the 2nd round, Panghal started dominating the game as he put pressure on his Kazak opponent Bibossinov. In the 3rd round, Panghal kept his cool and kept exhausting Bibossinov, thus winning the game by 3-2.

Amit Panghal will face Uzbekistan's Shakhobidin Zoirov, the reigning Olympic gold medalist, in the final on Saturday in Ekaterinburg.
