Congress leaders and workers had a narrow escape after the stage at a torch rally broke down in Chattisgarh’s Bilaspur on Sunday, April 2.
The incident took place when the state Congress leaders and workers were protesting against Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Lok Sabha.
In video shared by news agency ANI, the Congress leaders and workers can be seen raising slogans for Rahul Gandhi when suddenly the whole stage on which they were standing collapsed, forcing everyone to fall down.
Everyone present on the state, including Congress state president Mohan Markam fell down.
No injuries were reported after the incident.
Rahul Gandhi’s conviction in the 2019 defamation case, regarding his ‘why do all thieves have Modi in their names’ remarks during a public rally in Gujarat’s Surat, has sparked a political firestorm between BJP and the Opposition parties. Gandhi was also disqualified as an MP after his conviction in the defamation case.
Congress leaders and workers have been protesting across the nation ever since over the disqualification of Rahul Gandhi .
On March 23, a Surat court convicted Gandhi in the defamation case and suspended the sentence for 30 days to allow him to appeal bail on a surety of Rs 15,000. Following the conviction, Gandhi was disqualified as a member of the Lok Sabha.
