OMG! Baby born with two mouths; know what doctors do next!
An unbelievable and rare of the rarest case has come to light from South Carolina where a six-month-old baby was born with two mouths on the side of her chin.
The baby is from Charleston who was born with a 0.8-inch extra mouth.
According to the reports in the MailOnline, doctors first spotted it while doing the scans at the 28 weeks of pregnancy. At that time they thought it was a cyst or a tumor.
Notably, this case is rarest as she is one of the 35 people since the year 1900 known to have suffered from Diprosopus—or duplication of facial parts.
As per the BMJ Case Reports journal, doctors who treated her said that there is no connection between her two mouths. Hence, she could breathe, eat, and drink normally.
They added it would sometimes produce a clear liquid – probably saliva – and at times a raw surface would appear around it.
However, the extra mouth of the girl was removed by the doctors. They drilled down on her jawbone to remove the extra bone supporting teeth for the other mouth.
According to the journal, after surgery, she developed some mild fullness of the right face at the surgical incision for which a scan was performed, revealing a fluid collection.

After several months, the fullness was resolved and she didn’t require further treatment.
However, at the six-month, the incisions due to surgery were healed and the patient was feeding without difficulty.
But the baby was unable to move the right lower lip downward, which proved that her muscles in that area are not working properly.
Diprosopus, which has also been recorded in chickens, sheep, cats, and other animals is an extremely rare condition.
