The Mumbai Airport Customs officers seized foreign currency of a total value of Rs 1.5 crore from a Dubai-bound passenger on January 11. The currency notes were concealed inside the walls of two fruit cartons. The accused Indian passenger, who was scheduled to fly to Dubai on the FZ-446 flight, was apprehended and remanded in custody.
The currency notes included US dollars, pounds, rials, and dirhams.
The Mumbai Airport Customs took to its official Twitter handle and shared the information with pictures and clips of the seizure. “Mumbai Airport Customs seized FC equivalent to Rs 1.5 Cr from an Indian passenger travelling to Dubai by FZ-446 Flight. Currency notes include USD, Pound, Rials & Dirhams ingeniously concealed in side walls of 02 fruit cartons. Pax is arrested & remanded to judicial custody,” the caption reads.
In the video, customs officers can be seen cutting the fruit cartons and taking out the foreign currency notes concealed between the walls of the cartons.

On January 10, customs officials intercepted a passenger at the Mumbai airport and seized 2.81 kg of cocaine from his possession. The international market value of the seized cocaine is approximately 28.10 crore. The passenger was arrested and taken into custody.
The accused passenger concealed the narcotic in a duffle bag. “Investigations so far show that pax (passenger) was lured to carry drugs by persons whom he met only over social media. Pax has been arrested,” the Mumbai Customs tweeted.

As per the Customs Department, this was the third successful seizure of 2023.
