Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film Mersal is scheduled to hit the screens on Diwali. The film, tipped to the 100th film of popular Tamil production studio Sri Thenandal Films, has been directed by Atlee and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad of Baahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The music of Mersal has been composed by Oscar award winning composer AR Rahman.

Earlier, there were reports that the teaser of Mersal will be released in September.

And on Saturday, Hema Rukmani, the CEO of Sri Thenandal Films announced the teaser release date of Mersal as 21 September, on the occasion of Atlee's birthday.

Mersal was recently in news for becoming the first South Indian film to trademark its title. The film stars Samantha, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen in the female lead roles.
