Kamal Haasan's Marudhanayagam posters revealed at Cannes 2017
Kamal Haasan's delayed films seem to be getting revived. After announcing the revival of his film Vishwaroopam II, Kamal Haasan has now revealed the posters of his long-delayed project Marudhanayagam at the Cannes film festival.
Marudhanayagam, a period film, narrates the story of 18th century warrior Mohammad Yusuf Khan. He is said to have led the first rebellion against British raj. This film was expected to release way back in 1997, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and English languages. The film made headlines when Queen Elizabeth II launched it. But later, the film got shelved.
Marudhanayagam was supposed to be one of the most expensive films of the '90s as a budget of around Rs 85 crore was required to complete the project. The production had to be stopped midway because of lack of financiers.
According to sources, Lyca Productions, which is producing Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar starrer 2.0 for a massive budhet of Rs. 450 crore has been approached by Kamal Haasan for funding for the revival of the film.
The music of Marudhanayagam is composed by Ilayaraja. One of the songs, Poranthathu Panaiyur Mannan was already released in March 2016.
