UP: Minister Raghuraj Singh demands ban on 'burqas'
Uttar Pradesh minister Raghuraj Singh has triggered another controversy after he demanded a ban on burqas worn by Muslim women. The minister's controversial remark came, while he was referring the protesters against the newly enacted Citizenship Law in Shahjamal area in Agra.
According to reports, Singh said that burqas were being used by 'terrorists' to hide their identity.
"Wearing a burqa started in Arabian countries and is not an Indian tradition. India should ban the use of burqa," Singh said.
He further said Sri Lanka had banned it after a series of bomb blasts occurred in the country last year.
This apart, the UP minister has also slammed former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi for his remark on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"PM Modi and Yogi Adityanath are the icons of the nation and no one will tolerate such talk against them," the minister said.
This is not the first time when the minister has made a 'controversial' statement.
On January 13, Singh had vowed to 'bury those people alive' who would raise slogans against PM Modi and CM Adityanath.
Addressing a pro-CAA rally in Aligarh, Singh had said: "If you raise slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, you will be buried alive."
He had also slammed India's first PM Jawaharlal Nehru. "What was Nehru's caste? He did not have a 'khaandan'," he had said.
He had also said that anti-national elements will 'die a dog's death'.
