Maharashtra govt formation: Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance opportunistic, says Nitin Gadkari
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said that Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress is an alliance of opportunism and they will not be able to give Maharashtra a stable Government.
"There are ideological differences among Congress, Shiv Sena, and NCP. The govt will not go much ahead even if it is formed," Gadkari said.
The senior BJP leader further said that, "BJP and Shiv Sena alliance was based on the ideology of Hindutva and even today we don't have many ideological differences. Breaking of such an alliance is not only a loss to the country but also to Hindutva cause and to Maharashtra."
Meanwhile, Congress Legislative Party meeting was held at Maharashtra Vidhan Bhavan, to elect their legislative party leader.
Earlier on the day, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray met his party's legislators to discuss the political situation in the state.
Uddhav Thackeray along with his son and party MLA Aaditya Thackeray had a discussion with NCP chief Sharad Pawar and the later's residence. Sena leader Sanjay Raut was also present along with Uddhav and Aaditya at Sharad Pawar's residence for the meeting held at midnight.
The meeting between the two leaders began a little before midnight and went on for close to half an hour.
NCP leader Ajit Pawar was also present at the meeting held at Sharad Pawar's residence.
worth mentioning, Shiv Sena parted its ways with BJP to explore ways to form a government. It, however, failed to prove the support of the required number of MLAs in the time given by state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari.
The Governor had then invited NCP, the third-largest party, to prove its ability to form the government failing which President's Rule was imposed in the state.
The Shiv Sena is now in talks with the Congress and NCP to form a government in Maharashtra.
The BJP won 105 seats in the 288-member assembly followed by Shiv Sena 56, NCP 54 and Congress 44.
