A new concept of absentee voters has been introduced. This enables those voters to take part in polls who are not able to come to polling stations due to physical circumstances or unavoidable reasons.

This apart, differently-abled voters and senior citizens above 80 years can either vote in person or vote through postal ballot, the CEC informed.

Apart from this, the ECE Arora said, "We are hopeful that situations will be under control and conducive for polls. If there is an extraordinary situation, there is always an option of deferring the polls. Constitution empowers ECI to take the call."

On December 26, the CE reviewed the preparedness of various agencies ahead of the assembly polls in Delhi, with the Delhi police top brass expressing confidence that it is fully geared for the electoral exercise.

The term of the current assembly will expire on February, 22.
