BJP MP Ravi Kishan makes 'Hindu Rashtra' comment: 100 crore Hindus live in India, they are in majority

At a time when opposition parties have been dead against PM Narendra Modi led NDA government's resolve to move ahead with the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB), BJP MP Ravi Kishan's remark on India being a Hindu Rashtra is bound to court controversy. "India is already a Hindu Rashtra as 100 crore Hindus live here. The whole world knows this and we are proud of this fact," Ravi Kishan said while talking to a television channel.

Ravi Kishen further said that there are countries for Muslims and Christians. If Hindus face religious prosecution, they have no other place but come to India, he said.

The Citizenship Bill seeks to grant citizenship to all non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan if they faced religious persecution in these neighbouring countries.

Political parties have been opposing CAB as being a recipe for unrest and disharmony in the society. Trinamool Congress (TMC) has even accused BJP of dividing India on the basis of religion just to polarise the vote bank. BJP, on the other hand, has been touting CAB as a means to achieve its mission of "One India".

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which will now be tabled in Parliament next week
