Suresh Raina draws flak on social media following his 'I am also Brahmin' remark
Former India cricketer Suresh Raina received a lot of criticism on social media after one of his remarks during a commentary session in the current Tamil Nadu Premier League.
The former all-rounder, who plays for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League, was questioned by a fellow commentator how he has embraced the Chennai tradition as he has been seen donning a veshti, dancing and whistling.
In response to that, Raina said "I think I'm also Brahmin. I have been playing since 2004 in Chennai. I love the culture, I love my teammates."
In reaction to the CSK left-hander, a twitter user said that it seems that you have never experienced real Chennai culture in spite of playing for Chennai for years.
"@ImRaina you should be ashamed yourself. It seems that you have never experienced real Chennai culture though you have been playing many years for Chennai team," the tweet read.
"So watched the video, I once liked Raina very much and now im sad how ignorant or he has been hiding all these days. Lost it! No more respect," another user added.
Suresh Raina set forth his retirement from international cricket on 15th August 2020.
The 34-year-old has been an indispensable force for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League over the years. The all-rounder is the third highest run getter in the cash-rich T20 league.
