Nadal enters French Open semis as Carreno Busta retires
Fourteen-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal booked his place in the semi-finals of the French Open for the 10th time after his opponent Pablo Carreno Busta was forced retire during the last eight clash due to an abdominal problem on 7 June.
Nadal , who is bidding for his 10th Roland Garros title, broke his opponent four times in the opening set and was leading 6-2, 2-0 when Carreno Busta was forced to quit just after 51 minutes in the quarter-final clash of the men's singles event.
Carreno Busta, who was making his first last-eight appearance at a grand slam, received medical treatment at the end of the opening set before promptly retiring following an anguished scream.
With the win, Nadal has become just the fifth man in the Open era to reach 10 semi-finals at a single Slam after improving his record at Roland Garros to incredible 77 wins.
In the semis, Nadal will now face Austria's sixth seed Dominic Thiem who defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic 7-6,6-3, 6-0.
