Kidambi Srikanth wants to start afresh post Indonesia Open triumph
Despite clinching his maiden Indonesia Open title, ace Indian shuttler Kidambi Srikanth on Tuesday said he is looking forward to start from scratch in the Australian Open that gets underway today.
"I really want to do well and forget about what had happened in Indonesia, and, it is a new courts, new conditions. So, I want to start everything from scratch and do well in the first round," Srikanth told ANI in an online interview.
When asked about his preparation for World Championships to be held in August, Srikanth said he is just focusing on the Australian Open and would plan for the next event when he returns home.
"I am now focusing on Australia Open and will plan for World Championships after I go back to India from here," he said.
Quizzed if Indian shutters are on high stand in world badminton, Srikanth said, "Yes, definitely we are playing well, but need to be more consistent from now on."
On Sunday, Srikanth came out with a spectacular performance as he defeated unseeded Kazumasa Sakai of Japan in straight games to win the men's singles title of the Indonesia Super Series Premier badminton tournament in Jakarta.
The 24-year-old Indian shuttler was just flawless in his performance as he didn't give his unseeded opponent any chance and won the match 21-11, 21-19 in the summit clash that lasted for 36 minutes.
This was Srikanth's second Super Series Premier title after he won the 2014 China Open Super Series Premier. Overall, it is his third Super Series title as he has also emerged champion at the Indian Open Super Series in 2015.
