Heena Sidhu snaps CWG record, picks gold in 25m Pistol
Ending the wait for a medal on sixth day of the 21st Commonwealth Games, seasoned campaigner Heena Sidhu bagged a gold in women's 25m air pistol event here on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, who has already clinched a silver in the women's 10m air pistol category, broke the Commonwealth Games record by posting 38 points in the 25m category to claim the second medal in the ongoing prestigious quadrennial event.
While Elena Galiabovitch of Australia picked the silver after finishing with 35 points, the bronze medal went to Malaysia's Alia Sazana Azahari after firing 26 out of 50 shots.
Earlier, Sidhu shot 286 in precision and 293 in rapid to get to a total of 579 and finish third in the qualifying round.
Annu Singh, another Indian in fray, failed to capitalise on her strong start and finished at the sixth spot with a score of 15.
Earlier in the day, defending silver-medallist Gagan Narang and debutant Chain Singh failed to increase India's medal tally in men's 50m rifle prone event as they signed off at a disappointing seventh and fourth place respectively at the Belmont Shooting Centre.
India are now standing at the third spot with 20 medals, including 11 gold, four silver and five bronze.
