Union Home Minister Amit Shah on December 21 said that drug menace is a serious problem in the country and the Central Government has a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy towards the issue.
While giving details about Center’s action against the drugs menace, he said that the central agencies have destroyed more than 1,60,000 kgs of illegal drugs in 60 days.
“Over 75,000 kgs of drugs were targeted to be destroyed and within 60 days we have burned more than 1,60,000 kgs of illegal drugs. We have also formed a committee that analyses this data every 15 days,” Shah said.
The Union Minister, during the Winter Session, was replying to a discussion in Lok Sabha over the problem of drug abuse in the country and steps taken by the Central Government.
HM Shah further said that the Central Government is taking stringent actions against traffickers smuggling drugs from foreign countries, adding that “Government has a zero-tolerance policy towards the issue of drugs.”
“Drugs are coming from gulf countries, and people involved in it have been arrested while factories have been sealed. On the basis of this, raids were conducted in 12 states & people were arrested there too,” he said.
“The drug menace is a serious problem which is destroying generations. The profits being made from the drugs are utilised for terrorism as well,” Shah added.
The Union Home Minister further claimed that the Government has mapped the drug network across states and that every criminal, ‘big or small’ will be put behind bars in the next two years.
“We have mapped the drug network across the states. No matter how big the criminal is, in the next two years there'll be a situation that they'll be behind the bars,” he said.
