Watch: BJP workers beat up election officer in Moradabad as he allegedly asked voters to press 'cycle' button

As the polling in Uttar Pradesh’s 10 seats are underway, an incident of violence has occurred in Moradabad constituency where a BJP worker has been involved in a scuffle with the poll officer, who was on duty.

As per media reports, the BJP workers came to know from the voters and other sources that the election officer was allegedly asking the voters to vote for on the “cycle” button as the voting is on.

The cycle symbol is of the Samajwadi Party, which is in alliance with the Mayawati led Bahujan Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal, being headed by Ajit Singh. The presiding officer had allegedly asked some of the voters to press “cycle” button and eventually vote for the Akhilesh Yadav’s party.

“Moradabad: BJP workers beat an Election Official at booth number 231 alleging he was asking voters to press the 'cycle' symbol of Samajwadi party,” tweeted news agency ANI.

The officer, who was alleged for influencing the voters, has been since then removed for the polling booth but as on now, no action has been taken against the presiding officer.

10 seats of Uttar Pradesh are up for grab including Moradabad, Rampur, Sambhal, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Badaun, Aonla, Bareily and Pilibhit. BJP’s Varun Gandhi, SP’s patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, Azam Khan and Jaya Prada are some of the big wigs whose fate will be sealed in the EVM’s today.
